Journey Concert

Posted by Gemini

So me and mom ride into the city where the concert was going to be. My mother's a little lost, since she has gone to the city in a while. We're riding down some streets when we see a car driving off and a police officer walking away from them. My mother says something about maybe the police officer is stopping people, so we stop and the police officer puts her head up to the car looking slightly exasperated. Turns out she'd been stopped by several people to ask about the concert.

So we take the directions she gives us. Turns out they weren't worth a darn, but luckily my mother is able to figure her way around at this point and parks the car in a parking multi-level lot thing. I forget what they're called. So we walk down the stairs, because the elevator is taking too long, and then down the side walk to the place where the concert was going to be.

As we get there, I recognize the area and my mother says something about maybe bringing me here for some kids thing. whatever. We go into the building and I start to get all excited over the concert. The whole building is kind of circular. So we go around, seeing all the food seller's and the people selling the band's merchandise. It was cool. finally we go sit down. Of course we ended up sitting down in the wrong section so we had to get up and move. But it was cool because the section we ended up in didn't have as many people in it so we didn't feel as crowded in.

The concert soon started. There was a smaller band that came on before Journey. Night Rangers I think. I agree with my mom's statement that it was nicer listening to the main singer talk than to the band playing. I mean they weren't that bad but they weren't that... great either. He did tell a really funny story though.

Apparently the first joint that they played at had like... a really small stage. So they were all really squished in on this stage. But you see the bar ran all the way from the stage to the front door, and was really long. So one of his guitarists, he said, whenever he did his solos, would run up and down this bar knocking everyone's drinks over. (apparently they never made any money at the place because they had to pay for everyone's drinks). Anyway he continued on that there would be this one guy, named Eddy, that would come in occasionally. and he looked like this snazzy... business guy I think he said? He'd have two girl on each arm and everything. Apparently they always had a good night whenever Eddy came. So when they made their first album they made a song called Eddy's coming out tonight. So funny a story in my opinion.

Anyway after that band played there was an intermission. Mom asked me if I wanted anything to eat, I said no. We ended up getting drinks the both of us.

Went back in and journey came on. Was really cool to see them on the stage in real life. Especially their new singer. Who I really need to figure out the name of. I didn't recognize about three quarters of their songs but it was still pretty awesome. They were tons better than the Night Rangers. It was cool too because like each of the people in the band got their own like... solo songs where it was only them playing. They even did a really cool harmonica and guitar totally instrumental piece that I really liked. About half-way through me and mom went to the bathroom. While we were on the outside section of the building my mom called dad and we considered going home early. But my mother finally said, no, it would be safer if we left when everyone else left so we wouldn't be walking all alone on the sidewalk back to the car.

God I'm glad we stayed. They played all the good songs soon as we sat back down. All the one's I really knew and could sing along with, even though I couldn't name the titles off for you other than the obvious Don't Stop Believin' . It was awesome. And then they acted like they were going, but they came back. Oh and I'm going to backtrack for a second. The Night Ranger's main singer said that every self-respecting band had a na-na song. and what did Journey sing when they came back on? Their na-na song. Lovely right?

So me and my mom left, and we were still able to beat the crowd a bit, yet walk with a small group. When we got to the place where are car was we figured out that we hadn't thought to check which floor we'd parked on. So we ended up going two floors too high before we found it. Got home. Had dad activate my phone. Got to mess with it a little before they sent me to bed at midnight.
